An adventure to the Sub-Antarctic Islands
My excitement has been building all week and when I woke this morning I could hardly contain myself as I am off on a once in a lifetime adventure to the Sub-Antarctic Islands – thanks to Heritage Expeditions. I am most excited about getting to the Auckland Islands to see the world rarest sea lion’s largest breeding colony as I’ve been working at Forest and Bird to protect our critically endangered sea lions for nearly four years. I’ve heard from many how the diversity we’re going to see on this adventures will blow my mind. Well all I can say is bring it on.
The local cab driver takes me to the meeting point and I have to explain my excitement. He laughs and tells me I’m in for a rolling good time and that he hopes the weather improves. I’ve decided prevention is key and opted for the seasick patch. Given how windy it is walking around Invercargill I’m sure I won’t be the only passenger.
On the boat at last! And we’re off…
