I guess that means all the big green loud frogs in our dam are all imports then. At least I don't have to feel quite so bad when my cats occasionally catch them. The kingfishers eat them too.

Hi Susan
They are all nocturnal - but that might not be the reason you have never met any! The native ones are pretty rare and the introduced ones are very secretive, if you don't live near a frog habitat then you are pretty unlikely to ever see them. The best way to be a friend to frogs whether or not they live near your home is 'sustainable living' - don't use insecticides or pesticides, don't let anything you use pollute the air or soil or waterways, recycle and reduce your carbon footprint. More specific ways to help frogs is to learn more about them, tell your friends how important they are and get associated with some frog projects either physically or by donating money to NZFROG (see my website - www.nzfrogs.org).
Frogs need lots of advocates - so tell everyone "The future of the Earth depends on Frogs!"

Thanks for your interest

HI Phil,

I;ve never met any of our frogs - I assume because most of them are noctural? However, I am keen on saving them. In what ways can I be a friend to our frogs?
