Saw the first 6 of the summer in our estuary last night. When I see them circling to land I always think that they must be what inspired the designer of concord. They are just beautiful.

There are currently 10 Spoonbills in the Tiraumea Reserve,Pakuranga,Auckland, about 10 minutes drive from Pakuranga Plaza.

On Sunday 5th, I viewed 3 of these birds on the mudflats, feeding. The " Eastern Courier" local newspaper had an article and a photo mid-last week. These birds have been in the area since JUNE.

Jeremy may have a sense of humour but I don't think the Royal Spoonbill does. It's name suggests that it would have the humour of Anne or Charles. The bird with the most humour by far is undoubtedly the Kea!

Jeremy is right, The Royal Spoonbill is the only NZ bird with a sense of humour. About time the others got over themselves a bit I reckon. GO SPOONBILL!

The Royal Spoonbill is indeed a wonderful bird to view. I feel very priviledged to have been able to see it nesting together quite happily with the White Herons and Little Black Shags at Waitangiroto near Okarito on the West Coast of the S.I.

I'm still voting for the morepork. Now that is a cool little bird. Funny how you never see them just hear them. There's no sound more NZ than the moreporks calling. Go ruru!

It's such a good looking bird. Do they always have those mohawks, or has the wind given them that rock-star look?

Sense of humour, a spoon-shaped bill, 2 Os in its name (actually there are 3) ... you don't need many more reasons to vote for the royal spoonbill.

Well the two Os argument in favour of the spoonbill was not exactly compelling but the delivery by the lovely Mr Wells does make it sound slightly more convincing ...
