The Kakapo deserves all the help it can get, especially from their 2 legged cousins who introduced the mustilids that led to their demise. I recommend people to volunteer on Codfish Island.

Oh yes - the essence of innocence, a reminder of what an Eden NZ must have been before homo sapiens! So many thanks to the hard workers who are helping this bird and let us hope that one day we can all have the opportunity of seeing them in safe havens around the land.

I filmed 6, 10 week old Kakapo chicks in 2008 in Nelson and it was a tremendous experience. They were fascinating, each with a unique personality. One was a real buffoon colliding with others and tumbling around; another sat shyly and just watched the antics, swaying on her feet as he hooned too close.
They are fascinating and fabulous and smell like over-ripe fruit and just don't have a show of hiding from mammals, such a shame.
Kakapo are unique and endearing and there is some lovely Kakapo footage on my dvd OURS for young children.
